Over 20 nations were represented and over 110 riders made their way to Horsham to battle for the ultimate prize in Junior World Motocross.
The track at Horsham had a bit of everything and provided thrilling racing throughout the weekend, it was fast, had big jumps and few tight technical sections, testing the riders in all facets. More than 5,000 spectators made their way to the track and didn’t they see a spectacle.
The Teams of Nations trophy takes the best performances from each class and puts their score together, for Australia the total of 10 was enough to take out the Team of Nations Trophy.
In the 85cc FIM World Junior Motocross Championship (WJMX) Qualifying it was Brad West aboard his Kawasaki who was the best of the Australian contingent, grabbing the tenth quickest time of 1:54.980. West best lap came on lap two of the qualifying session as the Horsham circuit got rougher throughout the qualifying session.
“I felt quite good out there, the track is really good. It’s starting to rut up a bit and there a few pot holes and square edges but it’s fun hitting all the jumps, I’m looking forward to racing tomorrow,” said West.
The first race of the day saw the riders battling a wet and slick track, but it was West who handled the condition the best for the Australian riders to come away in ninth. It was completely smooth from West who’s helmet visor was just hanging on by a thread by the end of Moto one after doing some soil testing.
The second race of the day for the 85cc class saw West not get a great jump but a daring move around the outside saw the Kawasaki rider move into 2nd on lap one just behind the leader. West was mixing it with the top five for a number of laps but arm pump sat in and relegated back a few positions, settling for a well earned eighth position.

2018 of what is left - we as a family have made the decision not to travel to Tasmania for the Australian Junior Motocross Nationals but in stead we have committed to racing all Supercross rounds in Australia.
