First race of 2019 we ventured over the ditch to New Zealand to race the 2019 Woodville Grad Prix.
The NZ MXGP at Woodville is unique as Woodville farmland is transformed into a fantastic Grand Prix Motocross park to provide a once a year venue.
Over 500 Senior, Junior and Mini riders come from all over NZ and overseas to compete on this level playing field. The event attracts spectators from all over the region and further afield, it is a fantastic family day out with plenty of entertainment and action, particularly the Iconic River Race being a real crowd pleaser.
We flew into Auckland and hired a awesome mini van (said no one ever) and tried to pile 5 Ogio bags in as well as a large suspension case (what a disaster). So then we headed on the road to Kawasaki New Zealand to start getting race bikes ready for the event. With a huge helping hand from Shane, George and Joe we managed to get everything sorted ready to get on the road to Woodville.
So Friday we get to the track which looked like a running dairy farm and started to get the truck shades up ready for the weekend in which by the look of the weather was going to be Nz hot (top of 35 degrees).
Saturday morning we went and did a track walk - and it looked great. Qualifying went good on my Kawasaki 250 managed 2nd and my brother Jason managed 5th on his KX85.
Race 1 on the 250 got a amazing hole shot from the great bike George built me and came away with the win.
Jason got a good start but had to come through the pack and managed 4th in Moto 1.
Race 2 I got another cracker start and lead the race from start to finish. Jason had a tip over and finished 7th after a not so good start.
Race 3 this time was around 4th on the start and worked my way in the lead and rode a smart race giving me 3 out of 3 race wins.
Jason in race 3 was getting his way through the pack making it into position 3 when a another rider had a mistake taking him down as well but Jason got back on and finished 7th giving him a 6th place overall.
We absolutely love the New Zealand Woodville circuit its a great event to start the year off and look forward to this time every year.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Kawasaki New Zealand for the hospitality and great bikes, big thank you to the Verhoeven family for your help and hospitality.
